Copywriter/Marketing Strategist

Posted on 07/23/2012

Status: Full-time Compensation: Competitive Relevant Work Experience: 4+ years, B2B strongly desired MarketPlace Innovations, LLC, is a food marketing agency. We’re a smart, fun, hard-working team of marketing strategists, designers, web and tech developers, and content creators. We partner with B2B and B2C companies in the food, beverage, and ingredients (pet and pharma, too) industries to create custom marketing strategies and solutions. We develop brand identities, robust websites, e-tools and apps. We lead strategy sessions. We create campaigns, presentations, promotions, and sales tools. We produce retail packaging and custom, in-house photography. We help companies strengthen their brands and sell their products. We’re looking for a Copywriter/Marketing Strategist and overall excellent person with four or more years of professional experience developing and implementing marketing strategy for B2B and B2C companies. This position requires something besides an advertising, journalism, English, or marketing degree. In fact, we’re not too concerned with degrees or, for that matter, awards and such. The right candidate will have an understanding of marketing and communications strategy in general and an intimate knowledge of the ways that an agency applies creative services to deliver results for clients. Understanding marketing theory is necessary, but it’s not enough. Understanding what clients say, what they want, and how to translate that into marketing strategy and then communicating that thoughtfully, clearly, and effectively—that’s what we want. Please don’t mistake this with a call for a salesperson; we’re looking for an intelligent, critical thinker for whom sound writing, superior communications skills, and solid marketing strategy are synonymous. You don’t need to have mastered every jot and tittle of syntax, usage, and punctuation, but we expect a very high level of proficiency and care. In other words, we don’t want to have to worry too much about spending time editing your work, as this is a large part of what separates you from other creatives. This is how we imagine you: strong initiative; excellent people skills; a secure sense of personal identity and the ability to deal with a wide range of personalities; devoid of an inner diva or outer egomaniac; respectful communication abilities; the intelligence to identify needs and communicate our company’s ability to meet them; the humility to keep learning; and a strong desire to cultivate relationships and growth not only externally but internally. Must you have an in-depth, strategic understanding of the food, beverage, and ingredients industries? No, but you certainly need the ability to apply principles of marketing to those industries as you quickly learn them. Where you don’t know a client’s business or industry, you must be able to research, analyze, and deliver, all within time constraints. You must be able to understand not only the needs of your clients but also those of your clients’ customers. You must be able to visualize solutions for clients, anticipate next steps, and maintain excellent, professional communications. You should be able to handle high-pressure situations with grace and skill. Finally, the majority of your clients will likely be B2B companies in the food and ingredients industries. You will write websites, brochures, sales sheets, and other materials that are incredibly important to our industry and our clients but definitely aren’t the sexiest portfolio pieces imaginable. We do amazing, beautiful work, but if you’re looking for a position where you can spend the majority of your billable hours building a portfolio of award-winning B2C print ads and hip digital content, we’re definitely not the best fit for you. If, however, you’re a great thinker and writer interested in a great work environment, doing great work for every client, and working alongside some pretty great people, we want to meet you. No relo. No third party corp-to-corp candidates. Email resume and references to info@market-pl.com
