As America is glued to their TV sets to view their favorite show’s fall premier, many of them aren’t sticking around for the commercials. Large numbers are downloading episodes off the internet purposely to skip the commercials. How do we get around these obstacles to best represent of our clients? This is something that Cannonball deals with on a regular basis.
On Tuesday September 8, 2009, Cannonball opened their doors to let 50+ attendees into their new home off Maryland to teach them how to take an idea from conception into final production for TV. As Cannonball’s Aric and Joe explained not everything about TV production is full of glamour or stardom but it’s their job to best represent their client. It all starts with an idea.
The 3 stages for TV Production are Pre Production “the grunt work”, Production” the shoot” and Post Production “the tweaking”. Every step is crucial for the final product.
Script → Storyboard → Animatics → Testing *→ Approval
* Testing is where you find out if your idea is working or where you scratch that idea and start all over.
“Creatively testing may feel like a prostate exam, but it is actually very helpful”
Although Aric and Joe might make light of the day to day tasks their hard work and routines pays off. During Pre Production they look at call backs as a great opportunity to make changes. Shoot Day always equal “Eat a Breakfast Burrito and Shoot the Hell out of it”. Somehow during post production everything seems to fall together. As you can see TV Production is no easy process but you’ll need more than the client’s approval before your finished because without the networks’ approval your spot will never air.
